Washer Dryer Reviews
Washer Dryer - Is That A Stackable?
A "stackable" washer and dryer are two separate units: a washer unit and a dryer unit. Now before you say, "duh, that's obvious" you need to be aware that there is a Washer/Dryer all-in-one unit. Yes, it's a machine that washes and drys your laundry in the same drum.
A washer dryer is a single unit consisting of a wash combined with a dryer in one single unit. This is primarily used when space is so tight, you cannot even get a stackable washer dryer set into the allowed space.
There are several items to think about before purchasing a single washer-dryer unit. The primary consideration is the size - you would not be choosing a Washer/Dryer unit unless you are very restricted on size. You want to make sure any unit you buy fits into your limited space.
Next, consider the capacity of the washing and determine if the unit has enough capacity to service your household. Many of the single Washer-Dryer units have capacities that vary from three and one-half litres up to seven litres and higher. The larger, the better because the larger units are more efficient for drying the laundry.
Also consider the approximate maximum spinning speed. The single washer dryer units can vary in speeds from 800 RPMs up to 1600 RPMs, and some units have a variable or adjustable spin rate for different fabrics.
Newer Washer Dryer units are given a "performance" rating, and the ratings generally start with an "A" rating and go down to "G" rating. The "A" rating is the best or most efficient grade. The latest models usually rate between and A through C rating.
More comparison factors to review are the water consumption and energy consumption used by the Washer Dryer unit. Water consumption is measured in litres, and although you may save water with a unit that uses less water, there can be a direct corelation between the water consumed and the amount of time or depth of cleansing. In other words, the less water could mean longer washing cycles or cycles that do not necessarily get your laundry as clean the first time through a cycle.
The engergy consumption is based on wattage use. The higher the wattage, the more powerful a Washer Dryer unit can be. Higher wattage machines use more electricity, but they can also perform at a higher level with faster cleaning cycles.
Many units will advertise the lenght of time it takes to washa given load of laundry. This amount can be from 20 to 30 minutes all the way up to 120, but it will depend on the "dirt factor" or the degree of how dirty the laundry is.
If you don't have a laundry room or other location where you can close the doore, you may want to consider the noise produced by the machine. Sounds are measured in decibels, and the lower the number, the quieter the machine. For our family, this was a very important factor because the machine was located near the living room, and we wanted to be able to enjoy that space without the intrusion of a lot of noise from our Washer Dryer unit. You generally will pay additional for the extra sound insulation, which makes the unit quieter.
There are some other bells and whistles that you can look to is you get down to two or three choicse. Some additional features may include: half/load option, childproofing measures, delicates washing option, delayed start (convenient for running the machine at night if it makes too much noise) pre-soak timer, and some even have systems that determine if your machine is leaking water.
The Washer Dryer single unit machines are not stackable, separate units. So before you purchase one, make sure you consider some of the factors mentioned here to give you the best information
